I don’t know whoever said mixing and matching isn’t allowed for a semi-casual suit. Wear a tailored jacket with complementary, but not preferably matched tailored pants. How to pull separates together is however not a man’s thing. Go for the classic menswear colors; maintain a darker shade for the jacket.
