The 1950’s saw the introduction of a preppy aesthetic, displaying a youthful culture, inspired by collegiate dress codes. Preppy daywear, relaxed yet still respectful, included cricket sweaters, cable knits and grandpa cardigans. Preppy prints and patterns were later introduced to work attire and corporate wear. Stripes, vintage plaids and classic ginghams are throwback to this colorful era. Color palettes also played off with preppy styles including navy blue, bright grass greens, bright whites, scarlet reds, etc.
