What is a black tie?
Semi-formal evening attire, also called a black tie, inargulably offers the most striking look for evening events that starts around 6PM. The black tie comprises several design elements or components: Black or midnight blue wool; Peak lapels or shawl collars; Side vents or ventless (no center vents); 6×2 double-breasted or one-button single-breasted; Lapels, buttons, and pocket welts confronted with grosgrain or black satin. Similarly, there are different components for trousers, shirts, Cummerbunds, waistcoat, shoes and other accessories.

Cardigan – Alternate To Sport Coat
#FreestyleFridays
A superb alternative to sport coat (though you can wear both for an active, layered look) is a Cardigan. It offers you a warm outer layer without converting your upper body into a single, solid unit. You can put it on over a patterned T-shirt for a chic look or with a collared shirt for something a tad old-fangled. Knit cardigans with a shawl collar and abundance of fabric are as if like wearing a blanket.
Cotton Collared Shirts
#ThrowbackThursdays
The collared dress shirt came with suits or by itself with a pair of slacks. Dress shirts generally feature cotton fabric, with the collar spear point in shape. Shirts were brightly colored. White was a good option, but men instead choose yellow, blue, tan, grey or green shirts in solid, thin stripes or pin dot patterns. Shirt lengths were quite short by modern day standards and worn tucked in, having a single pocket on the chest, an optional feature.

Wear Polo’s For Semi Formal Look
#WearitWednesday
The art of under-dressing for semi-formal events
The idea of wearing a polo shirt for a semi-formal event had fascinated one of my clients. Admittedly, it somehow seemed to work its way into semi-formal use. Not for my money. That’s a real gamble. Similarly, most men believe that a nice pair of jeans fits the bill for semi-formal occasions. I don’t find this acceptable. Good grief, no! Not by a long shot.

What To Hang And What To Fold?
#TeachingTuesdays
Do you know what to hang and what to fold?
As simple as it may sound, it is equally important to maintain your business attire in supreme condition for extended use. Always hang your jackets, trousers and shirts. When it comes to jackets, I always use extra-wide shoulder hangers to avert damage. You needn’t spend huge bucks on pricey hangers; a high-quality one will do the trick. Ensure you get a proper set of hangers to preserve the shape of your jacket.
Go Brown For This Monday
#Motivational Mondays
“I really think a champion is defined not by their wins but by how they can recover when they fall.” — Serena Williams
This Monday will be all about Dark Brown Men’s Suit: Not particularly a highly formal suit, it works exceedingly well for men having dark hair and a darker complexion, not to mention for redheads, men with blithering complexions and some blonds. Effective in adding a bit of color, take precaution in wearing this to an extremely formal event (Wait for our Saturday post to know what actually clicks in a formal situation).
Casual Fall Wedding Outfit
#WeddingsByBucco
“And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.” — Meister Eckhart
When it comes to a slightly casual look for a fall wedding outfit, go for a suit with the right fit, which is softer in the shoulder and slimmer through the body. The peak lapel still should make it feel dressy, but the material overall much more casual.
Pair of Chinos for Stylish Fall Look
#FreestyleFridays
Is there anything that can beat a pair of chinos in a slimming fit for a stylish fall look? Dress them up or down based on the occasion. Pair with a long-sleeved Oxford or a fitted sweater in a matching color; you can throw this warm and comfy look together in no time without burning a hole in your pocket, and still look swashbuckling.
Pinstripes – Coolest Patterns In Tailoring
#ThrowbackThursdays
Pinstriped suit is making a comeback of sorts, and a welcome return, for sure, being one of the coolest patterns in tailoring. Now, if you feel business casual is well, too casual, go for a top-of-the-line pinstriped suit. Check out the single-breasted option first, then, try out a double-breasted jacket with peak lapels for a guaranteed full look. If you’d like some inputs about tailoring pattern suits, I am sure I can bite.

Business Casual Blazers
#WearitWednesday
I was quizzed by one of my customers on whether wearing a blazer for business casual is a good idea.
Definitely. You must have at least three blazers for your business casual wardrobe – light wool in classic navy color, a beige cotton or linen-blend and a grey tweed blazer.
Worried About Short Blazer Arm
#TeachingTuesdays
What if your blazer’s arm is too short?
If the blazer’s arm is too short, go for a similar colored roll neck or shirt to wear underneath, giving the impression of correct sleeve length. At a later date, find a good tailor who can help you with the proper arm length.

Craft Your Perfect Monday Suit
#MotivationalMondays
“I can’t imagine a person becoming a success who doesn’t give this game of life everything he’s got.” – Walter Cronkite
Okay, when did you give your everything to craft the perfect Monday suit? Take a plaid number out of your closet. When it comes to plaid, either go bold or go home. I recommend you pair your plaid suit with a navy micro plaid, and accessorize with a brown Houndstooth tie and a navy suede tassel loafers. I simply love pattern on pattern on pattern. Are you going my way?
