Top Tie Knots Every Man Should Know for Suiting Up

Honestly, many men think they know how to tie a tie but what they do is muddle with it. Every tie knot is unique and has its way/steps of tying. Thus, to keep things perfect, every man should make the effort to learn what the top tie knots are and what occasions they are best suited for. This ensures a perfect tie knot for the perfect suit style.

The popular tie knots every man must know

  1. Simple oriental knot

This is the most widely used knot type for ties because it works for both formal (business) and casual men’s suits. Also, if you’re a beginner, this is simple to learn. In general, men with medium or tall heights prefer this type of tie.

  1. Windsor knot

Men generally prefer this knot for grand or special occasions. It is also referred to as the Scappino knot. When tied, it looks triangular and leverages the beauty of the shirt collars. To tie this knot, a large part of the tie is used. Hence, ensure you choose a longer tie for this knot.

  1. Double knot

This is similar to the simple knot but with one additional turn. So, people also called it a simple double knot. This gives an asymmetrical appearance when tied, so you can use it for any shirt collar. Most importantly, this knot can be achieved real quick.

  1. The four-in-hand knot

Some experts claim this knot is not applicable for formal occasions. But it is also one of the three knots that the U.S. Armed Forces has mandated for their uniforms. Never mind, this is such an elegant tie knot that every man should know.

  1. Trinity knot

It is one of the recent innovations and needs much effort to perfect it. It is better to choose thin ties as the knot is quite complicated—soft turns in the beginning and tight turns in the end. This knot is perfect when you prefer minimalistic or simple solid shirts without patterns, checks, etc.

  1. Atlantic Knot

This knot is neither vintage nor latest. It best suits open collars and less formal occasions, like informal events, parties, or small celebrations. The number of turns is many. Hence, this knot is not suitable for beginners like a simple knot.

  1. Eldredge Knot

Experts call it the most complex knot as it involves many turns and separate passages. But when completed, it looks gorgeous. It was invented in 2007 by a researcher named Jeffery Eldredge, hence the name.

  1. Kelvin Knot

It is similar to the four-in-hand knot but with an extra turn. Overall, it looks simple and neat. Thus, they are fine for daily work and also for casual occasions. Thick ties would look great in this knot.

  1. Small knot

The name is small, but most suitable for tall men or men with long torsos. This knot is easily doable and applicable for daily use. It is similar to the oriental knot but works for informal occasions. The smaller the knot, the more applicable as casual and vice versa.

  1. Onassis knot

This knot looks great on vests and waistcoats and uses the widest ties. It is symmetrical and stylish. It suits a wide range of collars and works well for formal occasions.

What do you think? Is this witty? Or a fact? Of course, no one can question you when you wear a black tie for the black tie event in the evening. However, some use this as a hack to do justice to the event by simply wearing a black tie when the rest of the outfit is unmatched or not up to the standards. Also, some would like to keep their outfits simple, so they prefer a simple black tie and a suit.

Are extra-long and thick layers good for winter?

#TeachingsTuesdays

While men prefer building up layers as early as in the late fall, winter requires much more care and attention. Winter is already in and it’s time to stop using the lightweight or less thick layers. Preferably, heavy fabrics must line up your closet for the next two months. Be it formal, casual, or occasional, prefer insulating fabrics for enough warmth. Especially—heavy, thick, and extra-long fabrics like wool, flannel, and tweed-like fabrics are the best.

At the Grammy Awards last year

#ToplinerThursdays

This singer, songwriter, and record producer literally stole the red carpet at the Grammy Awards in 2023. Though he chose the usual black color, his style was unique—he did not choose the usual bowties or a necktie and a perfect fit suit or blazer. Instead, he chose Victorian and Western-style ties and a loose blazer. Also, he boldly wore his ideas as statements—Robert F. Kennedy campaign pin. Kudos to his choices!
