“You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” —Oscar Wilde

Before we get into what Oscar Wilde means, first, let’s understand the meaning of the word ‘overdressed’. The simple synonyms are dressed up, attired, ostentatious, or too formal for an occasion or an event.

In this quote, the popular playwright shared his view that you can never be overdressed or overeducated. Because neither dressing up nor too much knowledge is going to bother or harm you in any way. So, when someone says you’re overdressed, tell them, “I ain’t overdressed; I’m just over-smart!”
