Just so you know, there is an MVP for layering with cardigans. Yes, if you want your cardigan as your outer or middle layer, you can choose to wear a T-shirt or button-up along with it. On the other hand, you can style yourself casually with your cardigan by pairing it with a dress shirt. For styling workwear, you have to play around with your vests and blazers to match the button-up cardigans. 

Now, can you wear a sweater along with a cardigan? Well, yes! But ensure that the inner layer is quite thin and breathable.
