What is a Cummerbund? What is the origin of it?

#TeachingsTuesdays

A cummerbund is a sash of cloth that men wear around their waist as part of their suit or tuxedo.

When the British army came to India, they felt hot due to the warmer climate and struggled to wear waistcoats during the evening or dinner. They saw Indians wearing a wide sash around the waist. And included this in their attire. Later, they introduced this in Tuxedo Park in New York and spread the fashion. Over the years, it became a dress code for British people and any formal attire.
