A tie should always complement your suit and trousers. In a way, it should not outweigh your suit and at the same time draw attention. Amongst the different elements of a tie (color, material, and pattern), what matters the most is the color. If you’re wearing a light-colored suit and trousers, then choose a contrasting dark-colored tie. On the other side, if you’re wearing a dark-colored suit and trousers, then choose a similar color but a light-shaded tie.
