When WWII started, wool ran short of supply, so suit manufacturers for the first time experimented with synthetic blends. Styles became more pared back; colors more dark, and patterns were subtle herringbones or pinstripes. Although suits were tailored, trousers never used to be slim fits like today’s fashion suits. Rather, pants were comparatively loose sporting a tartly ironed crease down the front.
