Rule no.1 (for casual wear): The more details an item has, the more casual it is.
Compare Sample graphic t-shirt with a plain white t-shirt. Or cargo pants with oodles of pockets against a simple, neat pair of chinos. They might come from the same fabric, but the excess pockets, stitching, and details give them a causal look.
Rule no.2: You probably won’t wear those to an important meeting.
