1920’s Fashion Inspired By Golf Stars
#ThrowbackThursdays
In the 1920’s, much of men’s clothing fashion was inspired by what popular athletes like Golf stars Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen wore, including the plus-fours, plus-sixes and plus-eights pants layering them with colorful Fair Isle sweaters (multi-pattern, multi-colored sweater styles). The popularity of tennis ensured the white trousers and V-neck sweaters swayed influence over young folks around town.
However, the sports influence wasn’t restricted to golf and tennis stars alone, as popular footballers like Red Grange promoted the coat phenomenon. Red was instrumental in introducing the raccoon coat and the camel hair polo coat into the roaring 20’s fashion era.
